Triple Threat

Review
Here is a little saying to welcome you to this book:
In an effort to boost the country's morale, the president decides to send some of the nation's most cherished symbols, like the Liberty Bell and the Declaration of Independent, on a national tour. He plans to kick off the event on the Fourth of July in front of one of the nation's oldest flags, but a month before the tour is set to begin, the flag is destroyed in a mysterious explosion in its New York museum. The president's staff is desperate to avert the blow to national morale that would occur if anyone learns the flag has been destroyed (huh?). Rumor has it an even earlier flag, perhaps a legendary one sewn by Betsy Ross herself, will soon be coming on the black market.

The FBI is obviously brought to obtained to bring the cost of the flag and a special agent is assigned to the case. It is somewhat of a silly book with a wobbly start but once you keep reading and reading and reading you will not be able to stop and you would want to know more!!!  Library Catalog

Blinded Thoughts
Author
Mark Leslie
Review
I have to admit this is not normally something that I would read. As, I began reading, I wasn't completely sure if I could continue to read. I had a feeling this would not be a happy ending story and the language, drug use and violence are somewhat graphic.I do need to point this out but with that being said, it fits with the story being told. I have a past of working with victims of domestic violence and child and sexual abuse so I admit at times this was a tough read for me. But, I also have to point out that the two stories intertwined in this book are very realistic. At first, I thought that I was reading two separate stories about the two boys Noel and Terrell and wasn't quite sure how they would fit together. The Author does a great job of making these characters seem so real and the twisted fate at the end of the book really does leave you wanting to read a sequel. Both boys in the story really didn't have much of a chance with the families they both came from and even though, I was hoping for a happier ending, this ending was sad but a more realistic one. It really does show a realistic view of drug use and violence and how it can affect so many. As someone who has also lost a family member to drug use, I do appreciate the messages through out this story that the Author is trying to get out there about drug abuse. This was so realistic at points that I felt that I had worked with families in the past that this could have related to. The Author did an amazing job with his characters and I look forward to reading a sequel.(Not for children/teens due to language and violence).  Library Catalog

New Avengers. Vol. 2, Infinity
Author
Jonathan Hickman
Review
Let's see: Earth is going to be destroyed sooner or later by one of the Earth's from parallel universes that keep crashing through into our reality; Thanos is looking for his son and for the Infinity Gem and has no problem crushing worlds to get them; Wakanda and Atlantis are at War. The Black Swan, a mysterious person from another world keeps prophesying doom. She finds it all very amusing.

You know, I ought to like this more than I do. There's just a little too much going on at the same time, and the volumes come out just far enough apart that I half-forget what went before in between volumes--but don't care quite enough to reread everything to find out (This is an accidental reread, actually. I thought it was vol. 3). The Black Swan is more irritating than enigmatic, and I really, really wish the so-called Illuminati would let other people in on their secret conclave.

Mind, Captain America already called them out on their arrogance & got mind-wiped for it, so it's not as though Hickman doesn't know they're being arrogant and stupid--but they're still being arrogant and stupid and there's only so much of that a person can take.

So why is it 3 and not 2? In an abstract way, I appreciate the audacity of the work; Hickman hasn't hesitated to dig out the big, unlikely threats and throw them at Earth all at once.  Library Catalog

I was really looking forward to this book and have to give props to Ward for writing about a same sex couple in the mainstream romance genre. While I liked the book, I just wish there was more focus on Qhuinn and Blay being a couple as oppose to the overall over throwing the king plot/drug empire scene. As usual, I am looking forward to the up coming couples!  Library Catalog
