In the Unlikely Event
Author
Judy Blume
Review
Starting with 3 actual planes crashes within 8 months in 1951-52 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Judy Blume tells the fictional stories of the people whose lives were changed by these tragedies; Jews, Greek-Americans, and Irish-Americans from rich professionals, to single working mothers, to boys living in an orphan asylum. Fascinating reading for me because I lived in New Jersey during the 1950's but was not aware of these plane crashes that happened shortly after I was born.  Library Catalog

Hand-drawn and cleverly annotated maps of Tokyo's neighborhoods bring to life Florent's visit to Japan as a short-term resident. Visually interesting and funny scenes from city life are illustrated, too.  Library Catalog
